Journalists, activists, human rights lawyers, and researchers can now easily determine the active kill zones established in Gaza for specific date ranges using GazaMaps.com's new app. The tool relies on Databases for Palestine's archive of Israeli military Forced Displacement Orders (FDOs). Often falsely portrayed known as "evacuation warnings" the FDOs establish IDF-designated kill zones, areas where the Israeli military engages in extrajudicial killings at will (Haaretz 2024).

GazaMaps.com allows users to build custom maps showing the cumulative forced displacement orders for a specific date range by simply entering dates and selecting the appropriate layers onto display on the map. Each forced displacement map highlights the population blocks associated with the order and nearby cities, as well as the area displaced in square kilometers. Blocks in orange are areas under forced displacement orders - the darker the block, the more FDOs issued against it. Green denotes "safe areas" in Gaza. No areas in Gaza have been designated "safe" since January 12, 2025. The software also lets researchers see the history of FDOs targeting a particular area - click on a population block and it will show the most recent displacement order affecting that block, as well as details for all the displacement orders affecting that block in the lower right hand corner.

The maps can be helpful tools to reveal discrepancies in Israeli military narratives. For example, when the Israeli military fired on five ambulances and a firetruck before 7am, Mar 23, 2025, the initial narrative was that the rescue vehicles had violated a displacement order in place at the time. However the displacement order in question was issued at 8:21 am Gaza time, several hours after the attack.

During the 612 days of the Gaza genocide, the Israeli military has issued 104 displacement orders, with 36% of those orders occurring after Israel broke the ceasefire on March 18, 2025. Ostensibly a tool to protect civilians in Gaza, the Israeli military issues forced displacement orders on top of each other, sometimes multiple times a day, without rescinding the previous orders. The result is that 78% of Gaza is currently an active IDF-designated kill zone.

The database of forced displacement order maps updates as soon as possible after issuance, often within 24 hours. It is maintained by the volunteers of Databases for Palestine. Try the app here: https://GazaMaps.com/app
