NewsCord, a project by Tech For Palestine and known for breaking through media bias and distortion, has officially launched its app, giving users a powerful new way to see the full story behind the news.
Originally gaining traction on Instagram, where it now reaches over 51,000 followers, NewsCord has become known for uncovering hidden context, buried facts, and the narratives that shape how the world sees current events. With the app, that mission is now in the hands of everyday readers.
An App for Truth Seekers
The AI-powered NewsCord app uses Cross-Source Fact Aggregation, a system that pulls facts and angles from dozens of global sources. For every story, users receive:
- complete context
- a breakdown of where each part of the story comes from (local, Western mainstream, tabloid, alternative, and more)
- a side-by-side view of how different outlets frame the same event, especially when narratives contradict each other
Users can also select their own preferred news topics and categories, making NewsCord a tool not just for political or crisis coverage but for understanding news of all kinds, from technology to climate, and from local updates to global affairs.
On top of that, the app offers a Smart Sharing feature that generates visual summaries, making it easy to share facts and comparisons with others.
"More relevant than ever"
NewsCord was launched in November 2023, one month into Israel’s bombardment of Gaza. Its goal was to address what founder Nima Akram calls “a coordinated erasure of truth” in Western media.
“NewsCord is not just for stories about Palestine,” says Nima. “It works across all topics, but it was born because of how brutally the truth was being hidden about Israeli crimes. When media outlets remove the attacker from a headline, when they echo military statements without question, that’s not journalism. That’s complicity.”
Since its launch, NewsCord has reached tens of millions on Instagram, launched joint campaigns with Accountable Media that led to over 30,000 public complaints, and became part of the Tech For Palestine ecosystem.
Paul Biggar, founder of Tech For Palestine, puts it this way: “Once you start to understand the bias of the news, you see it everywhere. NewsCord helps expose it.”
