Ottawa, ON - A multi-sectoral coalition of diverse Canadian voices — MPs, legal scholars, medical professionals, international aid workers, Muslim and Jewish community leaders, and former diplomats — will come together to declare what the G7 Summit refused to acknowledge: Gaza is experiencing genocide.
As G7 leaders concluded their summit in Kananaskis with Gaza deliberately sidelined from the official agenda, this coalition is breaking Canada's complicit silence. The contrast is stark: while world leaders gather to discuss "international peace and security," they systematically ignore the most documented genocide of our time.
The numbers released just days ago paint a horrifying picture that G7 leaders chose to ignore: 71,000 children under five are expected to be acutely malnourished over the next eleven months. The death toll has surpassed 55,400 Palestinians, with nearly 129,000 injured.
WHY THIS MATTERS
The G7's Gaslighting Must End
For 20 months, world leaders have engaged in systematic gaslighting—refusing to call genocide by its name while Palestinians starve in real time. The G7 Summit's decision to exclude Gaza from its official agenda while half a million people face starvation represents the moral bankruptcy of international leadership.
Unprecedented Unity in the Face of Inaction
What makes this moment historic is not just what we're demanding, but who is demanding it. Canada's legal experts, medical professionals, Muslim leaders, and Jewish voices are standing together with such unified moral clarity. This coalition transcends the manufactured divisions that have allowed Israel’s genocide of the Palestinian people to continue unchecked.
The Famine That Leaders Ignore
While G7 leaders discussed "global security," they ignored that the entire population of Gaza—2.1 million people—faces acute food insecurity, with experts warning that "the risk of famine does not arrive suddenly" but "unfolds in places where access to food is blocked." This is happening minutes away from stockpiled aid that Israel refuses to allow through.
For twenty months, world leaders have engaged in systematic gaslighting—refusing to call genocide by its name while Palestinians starve in real time. The G7 Summit's decision to exclude Gaza from its official agenda while half a million people face starvation represents not an oversight, but a deliberate continuation of this moral failure.
This coalition unites around three non-negotiable demands that cut through the diplomatic fog:
THE THREE DEMANDS
- CALL IT GENOCIDE: ending twenty months of deadly euphemisms that have allowed Israel’s mass atrocities to continue under the guise of "self-defense" and "proportionality". The time for careful language is long past; what's happening in Gaza has a name, and our government must speak it.
- COMPLY WITH INTERNATIONAL LAW: Canada must enforce all International Court of Justice rulings, demand an end to the illegal occupation of Gaza, West Bank and East Jerusalem, and impose comprehensive sanctions on Israeli officials.
- DEMAND HUMANITARIAN ACCESS: Canada must insist on immediate, unrestricted humanitarian aid access to Gaza, including lifting the ban on UN Relief and Works Agency operations. When children starve minutes away from warehouses full of food, the world has failed its most basic moral test.
While G7 leaders return home from their summit having failed to confront the most documented genocide of our time, this coalition of Canadian voices declares: History will remember who stood for justice when it mattered most. The gaslighting ends today.
